A news app for Visoko.co.ba, a local portal from Visoko. Readers get the town's news on their phones with an alert for every new story, the portal's sponsors appear in the app just as they do on the site, and the newsroom keeps working exactly as before.

The challenge
Visoko.co.ba has covered Visoko, the Zenica-Doboj Canton and the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1998. It wanted an app of its own in both stores, so readers hear about a new story the moment it is out.
The app also had to earn its keep. The portal is funded by advertising, including sponsors it places on the site itself, so those sponsors had to appear in the app too, without the portal managing two sets of ads.
How we approached it
- The newsroom did not change a thing. The app reads straight from the portal, so editors publish once, as they always have.
- Sponsors follow the site. Banners the portal places on its pages show up in the app automatically, with a cap on full-screen ads so readers stay.
- New sections need no new release. When the portal adds a category, it appears in the app on its own.
- Quick to react: six updates went out in a single month as the portal's requests came in.

Stories already opened stay available for 24 hours, so a weak connection never leaves a reader with a blank screen.
