The official app of federalna.ba, the news portal of the public broadcaster RTV FBiH. The broadcaster now has its own channel to its audience's phones, with alerts for important news, Federalna's shows and Federalni radio live, while its editors keep publishing exactly as before.

The challenge
Federalna.ba is the news portal of RTV FBiH, the public broadcaster of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The broadcaster wanted an app of its own in both stores, so that important news reaches people the moment it is published and its radio and shows are one tap away.
There was one firm condition: the newsroom's workflow could not change. Federalna.ba runs on the broadcaster's own system, which we could not touch, and editors were not going to publish everything twice.
How we approached it
- The newsroom publishes once. Everything editors put on federalna.ba appears in the app within minutes, with no extra step and no second system to learn.
- One app for both stores, so iPhone and Android users get the same features on the same day and every update ships to both at once.
- We fixed the alerts at the source. The broadcaster's push system relied on a Google service that had been retired, so we rebuilt it on the current one for their own servers.
- Before the next release we audited the whole app and fixed what users would feel: a crash on start-up, radio that kept playing after you left it, and broken č, ć, đ and ž.

Sections that follow the portal, the latest news from every category one tab away, photo galleries inside articles, and stories saved for later.
Live radio with its own tab, which keeps playing when the phone is locked or another app is open.
FTV shows and segments play inside the app, full screen, and pick up where the viewer stopped. The TV schedule is always one tap away.
Alerts arrive on the lock screen, readers can switch them off in settings, and any federalna.ba link opens straight in the app.
